The White House Of Worship: Christian Nationalists Are In Full Wartime Mode
New York Times Editorial Board complains about the Separation of Powers. That's the wrong Separation.
By Mark Whitney
Yesterday the men and women down at The New York Times Editorial Board published a 3,000 word piece complaining about President Trump’s lawlessness, without once mentioning the First Amendment which compels the Federal government to guarantee the separation of state from church.
“No law” is not the word of the Lord. It is the word of the People.
Don’t tell that to the soldiers of Christ. They don’t wait for Congress to declare war. Why would they? Congress stopped doing that more than half century back.
Tens of millions of your fellow citizens believe the United States of America is a Christian nation, and, accordingly, at this writing, there is little question that President Trump will declare martial law in early 2026. Bannon and his people already use the language of martial law: “We are at war.” “This is a war.” “Invasion.” “Insurrection.” “Terrorists.” “Terrorism.”
When 20% of us can’t even read, it has to be the case that 90% of us believe crossing the border unlawfully is a crime. It’s not. It’s civil. And, because it’s civil, you don’t get a lawyer if you can’t afford one. That is also why it’s civil.
You can find the following excerpt on constitution.congress.gov, which is an official site (and cite) published and maintained by the same Congress that repeatedly delegated its exclusively Article I tariff authority to the person who happens to be President.
“Martial law can be validly and constitutionally established by supreme political authority in wartime as held in Luther v. Borden. In Luther, the Court held that state declarations of martial law were conclusive and therefore not subject to judicial review. In this case, the Court found that the Rhode Island legislature had been within its rights in resorting to the rights and usages of war in combating insurrection in that state. The decision in the Prize Cases, although not dealing directly with the subject of martial law, gave national scope to the same general principle in 1863.”
Lawyers and judges are invited to comment below that the President cannot suspend our Constitution, especially in wartime. I completely agree. Just know that Steve Bannon and his tens of millions of illiterate White Christian Nationalist followers have a term they use for court opinions they disagree with: “Judicial Insurrection.”
If you want to beat Steve Bannon you will have to kill him. Such is the nature of war.
In an interview with NPR, Bannon says, “The Constitution doesn’t say anything about judicial supremacy.” That sophistry only works on the illiterate.
The so-called War On Terror, established the legal framework for unleashing the U.S. Military on “nations, organizations, and individuals.” The statute passed one week after the events of September 11, 2001, that includes this language, is still on the books. Not long after President Obama twice used it to unilaterally kill two of your fellow citizens from Colorado — to crickets from Democrats — he mused that we really should get rid of that law. The Constitutional analysis went something like this:
“The accused shall enjoy due process of law.”
“What if we don’t accuse him?”
“Then we can kill him.”
I am woefully guilty of sleeping on Steve Bannon. Not anymore.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” ~Galatians 6:7.
You reap what you sow.
Now check the all upper case signage over Bannon’s shoulder on The War Room.
Steve makes King James look like Bernie if Bernie was a drunk.
The religious war waged by WCNs is not about American flags. It’s about crucifix wearing, loser Boomers who claim to be individualists, but affirmatively chose to not reeducate themselves when the Internet came along.
The subtext is something like, “I don’t know how to adjust my settings, so lets break up big tech. Actually, let’s break everything.”
The 71 year old Bannon whines about getting back to the good old days when his Dad could support five kids on the money he made as a lineman for the phone company, while his Mom made corned beef and cabbage and everybody farted.
If Steve’s Dad was a blacksmith, you wouldn’t be driving a car. You’d be riding a horse.
At bottom, Project 2025, all 922 pages, imagines a political system defined solely by the interests of Christians and Jews. Definitely not Hitler. But, also definitely not America.
You think we are not At War? What is it you think you’re feeling in response to 140 Executive Orders in three months? That, my fellow Americans, is the Fog Of War.
On Day 1 of Trump 2, Don uses his right pussygrabber hand to sign an executive order declaring an end to birthright citizenship, thereby proving that Presidents can rape at scale.
But, don’t worry. Everything will be fine, because 75 year old, Elizabeth Warren, is going to investigate Trump for insider trading of analog currency, when the real grift is in unregulated crypto. Rest assured, when that doesn’t work, 74 year old, Chuck Schumer sent the President — who turns 80 in 13 months — a letter with eight tough questions. Same President who thinks the Declaration of Independence is about “love and respect.”
Different president. Same sundowning.
Meanwhile, Harvard MBA, Steve Bannon is focused on the part of the Declaration of Independence that says,
“It is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.”
Bannon seems like a nice guy, kind of guy you might want to have a beer with, when he’s not trying to kill you.
